On August 11th, 2021, Tiger Accelerator organized its 2021 Demo Day in an online format. Supported by Taiwan's Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA-SMEA), the event featured 6 Taiwanese Medtech & Life Sciences startups from Tiger Accelerator's portfolio, that are currently engaged with the European market. Each startup demonstrated both their technological innovation, and their business case for bringing uniquely valuable new solutions into the European context.
In her opening remarks, Deputy Director General Betty Hu of the MOEA-SMEA shared her positive outlook on Tiger Accelerator & SMEA's multi-year combined efforts in bridging the Startup Ecosystems between Taiwan & Europe. Since the start of this collaborative project, Tiger Accelerator's programs has introduced numerous Taiwanese startups into the Dutch and European entrepreneurial communities, as well as connecting them with industry-specific stakeholders in the European market, and in doing so has generated significant value for all parties involved.
After the Opening Remarks, the Demo Day was kickstarted with introductory presentations from the Tiger Accelerator team. Firstly, Steve Huang, the Project Leader of the Hub 2 Hub initiative, shared an overview of Tiger Accelerator's activities in this year: how through the 3 pillars of Market Access, Co-Innovation and Co-Acceleration, Tiger Accelerator has built an entryway for Taiwanese startups into the European market.
Then, Tiger Accelerator Founder Valerie Hsu shared more details about the ongoing Acceleration program RAPID-Health. As an acceleration initiative focused on the Health & Life Sciences sectors, RAPID-Health provides Taiwanese startups with opportunities in Europe for product validation, marketing reach, fundraising and more. The upcoming edition of RAPID-Health will start in November 2021, and innovative Taiwanese entrepreneurs are welcome to join.
Lastly, Gordon Chen, Chairman of the Taiwan Business Association in the Netherlands Innovation Committee, shared his insights on the various advantages and challenges for Taiwan's Medtech & Life Sciences startups aiming for European expansion. Furthermore, Chen elaborated on how Tiger Accelerator, together with its network of expert consultants in the Netherlands, can serve the key role of helping the startups to overcome these challenges and identify an optimum strategy most fitting for the European context.

The 6 Taiwanese Medtech & Life Sciences startups presenting at the Demo Day are selected from Tiger Accelerator's consultancy portfolio, and have each demonstrated their entrepreneurial progress in Europe. The startups are:
Energy Resources International Co., Ltd. (ERI), a pioneer in X-ray radiography, has stepped into medical equipment field and has dedicated to its effort to explore and master the properties and application of Carbon Nanotube (CNT) technology since 2013. The first area of focus has been in the development of world’s first CNT-driven Cold Cathode as the X-ray emission source.
LumiSTAR Biotechnology is an expert in designs of a range of protein-based indicators for cellular dynamics measurements. Our expertise includes photochemistry, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology, optogenetic tools and regenerative medicine. All of these technologies are packaged into an all-optical platform for phenotypic screening, drug discovery, and toxicity testing; the long-term goal is for precise/personal medicine. This high content platform enables customers to do their drug screening tasks in a more efficient and economical way. We offer a variety of functional assays for different disease modelling; customization service is also available.
Bio Preventive Medicine (BPM) is an innovative clinical-staged biotech company, focusing on early detection and prevention of diseases specialty of those high value added molecular diagnostic product.
APrevent is a medical device company, founded in 2013 by a team of international clinically experienced physicians and engineers. APrevent's products improve voice and communication, focusing on the development of a long- term implant system and speech conversion platform for patients with glottic insufficiency and dysarthria.

Soteria Biotech Co., Ltd. is a Taiwan-based company that develops innovative medical software. It develops patents and sells products for respiratory diseases. Our first product “Soteria One Point Zero” is a medical cloud software designed to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS).
In Taiwan, Tiger Accelerator is a member of Linkou Startup Terrace, a robust innovation & entrepreneurship cluster. In the Netherlands, Tiger Accelerator collaborates with various European ecosystem partners, and has the capacity to connect startups with European opportunities such as potential research projects in the Utrecht Medical Center, as well as matchmake startups with business opportunities within the European Business and Innovation Centre Network (EBN). In the past year, Tiger Accelerator had consulted more than 10 startups, and had successfully facilitated two startups to reach their fundraising targets in Europe. Tiger Accelerator welcomes potential partners interested in international expansion in Europe & Asia to get in touch, and explore the possibilities for co-creating the next step in their international entrepreneurial vision.
Upcoming Events
In Q4 2021, Tiger Accelerator & partners will continue to organize several virtual events connecting the startup ecosystems in Taiwan & Europe. On September 28th, the "AI in Health: Startup Innovation from Taiwan & The Netherlands" event will be held, where startups and industry leaders from Taiwan & the Netherlands will exchange on the latest developments in the field, as well as explore the direction for future collaboration.
Then, on November 9th, the annual Taiwan Business Day will be held — an event introducing the opportunities provided to Dutch businesses by Taiwan's burgeoning startup ecosystem. On November 10th, the WeScale Challenge 2021 event will take place, where Taiwanese and Dutch startups aiming to scaleup internationally will engage in a pitching competition in front of an international jury. Concurrently, starting from October 10th, Tiger Accelerator will present Taiwan Innovation Fair: a dedicated online exhibition space showcasing a diverse portfolio of outstanding Taiwanese startups. As the events will be virtual, partners from both geographies are cordially invited to participate.
